The Wakeboard Camp
Our camp is an all inclusive 5 day summer Wakeboarding camp located just west of Yosemite, in Central California. Lake McClure offers first class riding conditions and consistent weather so you can focus on learning rather than dodging wind and rollers. Established in 2002 by Professional Rider Mike Schwenne, with the goal to offer a safe place for kids to have the time of their lives while learning to wakeboard. Our coaching staff and our coaching system set us apart from every other facility in the world. With only 15 campers a week and 7 staff our camp is a family. No one gets left out, and everyone makes new friends. Learning new tricks while being supported each other every step of the way is a great learning experience that kids can transfer to anything they become involved in. The video above of our campers riding is made completely from new tricks learned during their session at camp- a testament to both the coaching system, and the environment in which campers learn.
Additionally, wakeboarding is a sport that relatively few kids get the opportunity to participate in. We have noticed that return campers enjoy leaps of self confidence due to being involved in such a different sport and belonging to a tight-knit community that is truly separate from what many other kids experience at other summer camps.
Our coaching system is un-intimidating and is designed to get results. We don’t throw you in the water and offer you tips or bits of instruction. We first teach you the foundation for all tricks through our step by step, fundamental approach. We then prepare you using our exclusive prerequisite drills and trampoline training for any trick you wish to learn. Every trick is made of multiple elements. We teach you to master the muscle memory and technique for all of these elements before you attempt the desired trick. Our coaching system works best in the camp setting because of the water time we have with you, however it also works in a day-lesson setting.
Wakesurfing has gained a lot of momentum within the wake boarding industry over the past couple years. With slower speeds, less battering falls, and the same amount of fun, it is easy to see why. The feeling of riding a wave without being attached to anything can ‘t quite be compared to anything else. What’s even better, is that learning to wakesurf is very transferable to the ocean. After a few sessions behind the boat on the endless wave you will be more than prepared to surf in the ocean.
Similar to our coaching system for wake boarding, we teach you to master the technique for numerous smaller steps which make surfing without the rope, and surfing in the ocean much easier.
Coming from Santa Cruz, we would like to think we know a thing or two about surfing. For years we have brought hand-shaped boards to the lake for our campers to try behind the boat. In 2015 Hyperlite started manufacturing a shape that our very own Mike Schwenne created. Designed for both ease of learning, and high-performance surfing, ‘The Quad’ is a shape anyone can have a blast on- no matter what skill level.

With our lessons, learning is guaranteed. The one problem with lessons is that expectations and reality don’t always line up. Results come from laying a strong foundation before ever attempting tricks. Most people expect to be told a trick tip or two that will change the way they ride or allow them to be able to land a trick. If you’re just looking for a trick tip, we suggest you read a couple magazines or check out some online tutorials. Typically when you hit a plateu and your progression stops, its because you have some gaps in your riding. Our coaching system fixes those gaps and fills them using a wide variety of training drills.
